Ji-Ji is an associate of Morinomiya Youko, who describes him as a "big shot" of some sort.
Appearance[]
Ji-Ji is an elderly man who is almost entirely bald. He generally dresses in a suit and drapes a scarf over his shoulders. Ji-Ji wears glasses.
Personality[]
Ji-Ji is a very proud grandfather. There's nothing he loves doing more than bragging about his grandchildren to anybody in his company. He recognizes this trait in other elders who are not as outgoing as he is, and persistently tries to get them to embrace that tender side of themselves.
History[]
Ji-Ji has known Youko for a long while. When he heard that she adopted the orphaned Kashima brothers, he invited her to his limousine so they could trade stories about life as grandparents. He was just getting into how he's been spoiling his precious youngsters with extra pocket money when Youko decided she could do with less of him. He was dismayed at her cold response, but his hopes were lifted eventually when he called her days later to challenge her to another contest on who had the cuter grandchildren.[1]
Ji-Ji later returns to the Morinomiya residence in order to ask Youko for a personal favor. Since he was going on vacation with his grandchildren, he needed someone to look after Se-chan. Youko was reluctant, but gave in after Ji-Ji pointed out that Kotaro would be sorely disappointed to miss out on spending time with the parakeet. When he returned, he joyfully reunited with Se-chan and once again invited Youko to discuss their grandchildren at length.[2]
Relationships[]
Family[]
Grandchildren[]
Ji-Ji's defining characteristic is the fathomless love he has for his grandchildren and his tendency to talk about them without end. None of their names are known, though one grandson is nicknamed "Te-chan."
Se-chan[]
Se-chan is a parakeet belonging to Ji-Ji, and he loves it as if it were one of his precious grandchildren. Se-chan learned to imitate human language from him, and parrots his bragging constantly.
Friends[]
Morinomiya Youko[]
Ji-Ji and Youko were classmates in their youth, and remain in touch in the present day. Ji-Ji is a bit disappointed that she doesn't care to openly gush about her bond with the Kashimas, which seems to only encourage him to try harder to get her talking.
Notes & Trivia[]
- His real name has yet to be revealed in the story. "Ji-Ji" is an affectionate nickname that Se-chan learned to say.
- A running gag with Ji-Ji is that his appearances always start with him looking stone-faced and serious, only to transform into his comical doting self by his second panel.
